The RECOACTIV® Renaltan Tonicum is a tasty supplementary food with a phosphate binder for cats with kidney dysfunction. With the help of the phosphate binder calcium carbonate it contains, the excess phosphate is bound into indigestible complexes in the stomach and excreted directly. Filtration via the already weakened kidneys therefore takes place to a significantly lesser extent and the strain on the kidneys is significantly reduced without endangering the cat's protein supply.
In cats with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and advanced stages (IRIS phase III + IV), the use of a phosphate binder makes an important contribution to therapy. However, the administration of a phosphate binder is also recommended in early phases (IRIS I + II) and in older animals with age-related weakening kidney function in order to counteract a deterioration in organ health.
If switching to a phosphate-reduced kidney diet food is difficult or if the cat does not accept it at all, administering a phosphate binder to the usual "normal" food is a suitable alternative until the switch to the new food is successful. In advanced stages of kidney dysfunction, the combination of phosphate binders and kidney diet is indicated.
When using a phosphate binder, it is recommended that blood values be checked regularly by a veterinarian.
RECOACTIV® products contain important vitamins and trace elements and consist of natural, food-grade ingredients. They are free of grains, colors and preservatives.
*In collaboration with the Institute for Animal Nutrition at the Free University of Berlin, Department of Veterinary Medicine, a scientific study has proven that RECOACTIV® both promotes the absorption of water and significantly stimulates the appetite of cats and causes increased food intake.
An average cat (about 4.5 kg) receives 10 ml per day.
The RECOACTIV® Renaltan Tonicum is administered with the food to ensure balanced intake. The product should be mixed well with the food. If the animal is fed several times a day, the amount of tonic to be administered must be divided accordingly.
